And I missed the whole Rush Limbaugh/Sandra Fluke thing. (Though, thanks to Google, I am caught up!) She must be quite proud of herself. I doubt she would have had the President of the United States calling her and giving her an “attaboy” had Rush not implied that she was a slut. So you go girl.
You go for pressuring Georgetown Law to pay for free oral contraception medication. For three years. That is some serious dedication. ESPECIALLY since there are 5- yup, 5 Planned Parenthood offices a short bus ride away. (I assume that given the concern that women in her situation cannot afford to pay for their OC (oral contraception), they certainly cannot afford the $4 a gallon gas or the insurance for said vehicle.)
The deliciousness is killing me. There are so many things that should be talked about… How ‘bout I just list them?
· Go look at Google maps for Georgetown, if you aren’t familiar. Then search for Planned Parent offices. Interesting ads that pop up for a company the world tells us is interested in WOMEN”S HEALTH. Don’t be lazy, do it. OK- fine, if you don’t do it, there are ads for “gentle abortion” clinics. And Planned Parenthood- click on one of the offices there in DC… first thing that shows up in the description (for all those Google searches out there)… not contraception, not mammograms (that one didn’t even pop) but, you guess it. Abortions.
· I seem to have a vagina. Yup, pretty sure God gave me one when He made me female. But I am pretty sure He made a penis too. You know, that whole SEX thing?? Why must we limit the insurance companies to PAY for free contraception for women? Aren’t condoms included? WAIT- They aren’t??? Why the hell not? You mean to tell me that WOMEN who fight for reproductive justice, like Ms. Fluke, are in a “nuanced” way (to steal her phrase) encouraging men to have no personal responsibility? That men can conquer the world with impunity? That, oh, poor me- it is ALL UP TO ME?? I have to have the Pill to protect me… which brings me to another touchy subject…
· Aren’t condoms actually safer for men and women than the Pill? OK- they supposedly fail (I’ve been secretly wishing this to happen for a year- but alas, they haven’t failed my sweetheart yet!) but they DO protect you from STDs. The Pill does not.
· Oral Contraception is actually listed as a Group 1 Carcinogenic to Humans (i.e., KNOWN cancer causing agent). There are less than 100 in that lofty group.
· This is where advocates throw out the benefits of taking OCs because they have might lower the risk of ovarian/endometrial cancer…. By taking it for a long time (which increases the risk for breast cancer).
· An aside here: The National Cancer Institute estimates that in 2012 there will be 47,130 new cases of endometrial cancer and 8,010 related deaths. Compare that to, let’s say, breast cancer (or liver cancer, cervical cancer… cancers with elevated risks associated with taking OCs). According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in 2011, and they expected deaths related to breast cancer to be a staggering 39,520.
· HUH
· So, the Government is also promoting the use of OCs for young women, who by the government’s own research, are more likely affected by the use of said OCs in a negative way… higher cancer risk. That’s interesting.
· WHY?
· Maybe because, it doesn’t have a damn thing to do with health care at all.
That’s right. I said it. Reproductive justice, oral contraception, abortion have absolutely nothing to do with a woman’s health. If so, how can anyone argue for the right to abort another baby girl? Doesn’t SHE have woman’s rights (diminutive though they may be)?
How can a woman stand there and yell about needing FREE birth control, yet refuse to take responsibility for her sexual conquests. I don’t hear men yelling for free condoms as a RIGHT. Yet condoms protect men from STDs that could threaten their lives.
Furthermore, the concept that the government has ANY business in my uterus or my sex life is absurd. This is the ultimate failing of these RIGHTS-mongers who peddle the idea the government has the responsibility to provide anything to its citizenry.
Unfortunately, too many people who heard the well-spoken Fluke will concur, as did Barbra Walters in her interview on the View, that free contraception does not require the rest of America to pay for it. To be fair, in this instance, she’s right. Since Georgetown is a private university- a private Catholic university mind you, they would only have to squeeze more money out of the students who attend to cover the expense of free OC. So I guess, in some twisted way, men are paying a price for sex, whether they know it or not (should Fluke get her way).
Interesting that Ms. Fluke mentioned Media Matters as a good source to read about the incident. Interesting too, the timing of her campaign to save a Catholic university from it’s passé views on morality. Shame on you Georgetown. The President, Media Matters and all progressive, leftist thugs want you to do what is RIGHT and go along quietly with his healthcare mandates. What a farce. And we all played our parts very well. Even Mr. Limbaugh. So bravo Sandra Fluke. Good job!
Next up: Why the government should pay for my gym membership and private education.
exactly spot-on!!
