Tortillas, Burritos and Racism

Remember the outrage over AZ SB 1070?  The supposed, "Show Me Your Papers" Arizona bill that required, among other things, visitors to carry papers showing immigration status if the visit exceeded 30 days. The Left in it's apoplectic glory, likened the entire situation to the early days of the Nazi regime where the Jews were told to carry their papers, and eventually segregated into the ghettos; forced to wear the Juden, or Star of David.

Well, history repeats itself.  As the German Nazi's (National Socialists) were busy forcing everyone towards separating the other, using propaganda and fear mongering, so too are the Leftist Progressives using those same tactics on America.  Too nuanced?  Let me be more simple.  Hitler was a rabid Jew hater and used everything he could to drive up hate towards the Jewish people.  The Left, under the guise of love, acceptance and justice, are doing the same thing.  It's only a matter of time until these "sub" groups are required to self-identify as one of the check-marked boxes they so love to create. 

Today's lesson in division is called "White Woman." The term "White Woman" however, isn't an approved title nor sufficiently marginalized enough to confer a title of victimhood upon to keep the haters at bay.  Take what happened to these two, young female, "white" (since it is important to classify...) entrepreneurs in Portland.  LC Connelly and Kali Wilgus went on a Mexican vacation.  They loved the food, particularly the tortillas, and asked around how to make them, and even tried to observe how the Mexican ladies created them.  They came back home inspired enough to play with the bare bones of a recipe and technique until they had something they could sell and offer to their fellow foodies in Portland.  In a food truck no less.  Great American success story, right?

Nope.  These women are examples of hate.  Pure and simple.  Hate from the Left that is.  

Called thieving "Cultural Appropriators" fueled by an "African American Female" writer's post that referenced the original story about these two young ladies. (Since again, the Left says we must classify all persons.)

“They told us basic ingredients,” Connelly said, adding “[but] they wouldn't tell us too much about technique.” Hmmm. Wonder why? This is where things go from quirky to predatory if you haven’t already guessed.

No.  Wonder why?  Intellectual honesty is key here.  Maybe because if the author had bothered to read carefully the Willamette Week article she references, she would have to infer that perhaps (and I know- it's a total stretch, right?) that according to Connelly herself, "I picked the brains of every tortilla lady there in the worst broken Spanish ever, and they showed me a little of what they did." Broken Spanish??  So maybe they simply didn't understand her very well? Occam's razor and all that. So it isn't "quirky" to try to find out how to cook something you like, it's "predatory."  And like a predator, these two thought,"We will STEAL these sweet ladies livelihood and income and create (awful word, I know) a product to sell IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY!" 

"If that wasn't bad enough, they decided to pack up all their stolen intellectual property and repackage it..."

See??  They DID do it on purpose!  Proof of motive and intent to defraud these poor ladies. Our intrepid social warrior of justice is the judge, jury and executioner.

But wait.  Did they in fact steal the greatest recipe of all time? Um. No.  They were given basic ingredients and played around with it until something yummy happened.  And by the way, a basic search for "Mexican tortillas" yields over 15 million hits.  15 MILLION.

The author's tirade against theft and the "super liberal people who steal" the cultural... what exactly I am not sure. She seems to agree the key issue is that by having a white, female owned business, more (white?) people will not have to engage with the "pesky brown middle woman" and thus stealing this cultural icon, the tortilla, is a mortal sin.  Indeed, one that is so egregious that only RUINING, and CLOSING these young ladies business is an acceptable outcome and hailed as a "small victory" by the obtuse and hate filled Left.

A tortilla as far as intellectual or cultural property is concerned a pretty lousy thing to get excited about.  The tortilla has been around since Pre-Columbian times in Mesoamerican and North American cultures. Maize, or corn, in all it's varieties, was the only kind of tortilla used until the Sephardi Jews (exiled in the Spanish colonies of the Americas)  tried using European wheat flour instead of the non-kosher corn. 

The burrito, which uses flour tortillas, is chiefly credited to have appeared in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua (a Mexican town on the border of the US, south of El Paso) and considered a Mexican-American invention.  Thanks to the cowboys and vaqueros (Mexican cowboys) of the 1800's, we have endless variations of burritos available now all over the world. 

So, ancient Mesoamerican tribes made a round "cake" the Spanish named and the Jews re-invented using wheat.  The corn and wheat tortilla is a taste preference, not a cultural one as both are used throughout the Americas as time goes on; and low and behold, 19th Century COWBOYS help create the most prolific "Mexican" food eaten today.  

Tell me again about white supremacy? 

So take it back to Hitler, because you know, the Left has a man crush.  It would appear that to appease all Leftists and haters at large, we must start carrying a card with us and proclaiming what our cultural status, gender status, and most importantly, race status is.  Instructions on properly filling out your Culture Card might make this disclaimer: Political affiliation will be assumed by the victimization status you identify with and general attitude of hate of "others".  Should you resist considering yourself a racist (this only applies to WHITE people) then you are ignorant and clueless of your privilege. This means that you are subject to hateful, vile bigotry, theft of the ability to own or maintain a business and you should expect personal and financial attacks.

Bravo!  Please someone tell me logically where this all ends. The only victims in this sad tale are the business owners who lost it all because the Left can't follow logic.  No Mexican lost her business.  I'm willing to bet her $5 lobster tacos are still being served right now.  But those Kook's burritos?  Yeah. You can't buy those anymore.

Ladies, come to Arizona.  We love ALL burritos.  And we couldn't care less who makes them.  As long as they are tasty. And when it comes time to fill out my Cultural Card, I hope someone can explain what WHITE actually means.
